In November 2020, the first direct power connection between Germany and Belgium went online. This power connection that crosses borders has helped grow European power trading, providing urgently needed grid capacities. Electricity customers in France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany all benefit equally.

To make this possible, a DC underground cable was connected to the AC mains power grids in Germany and Belgium via two converters. Around 90 kilometres in length, the interconnector is called Aachen Lüttich Electricity Grid Overlay, or ALEGrO for short. ALEGrO is a joint project between grid operators Amprion and Elia.

Why did the customer choose OBO products?

OBO is proud to have contributed to this project with its high-quality cable support systems, and to be part of this border-crossing grid overlay with a number of KTS products.

More than 10 kilometres of cable trays and cable ladders were laid in total.
In addition, numerous accessory items from the OBO range were used to route the large number of cables and cable support systems through the entire site.
Height-adjustable IS 8 supports were used, for example.
